Facebook to launch TikTok rival Lasso in India soon – May (update)
To check the huge popularity of TikTok in India, social-media giant Facebook will launch its TikTok rival Lasso in the country this year.

This year Facebook will announce its innovative Lasso app to battle off TikTok in India.
According to a report by Entrackr, Facebook will introduce Lasso – its short video app – by May. The Lasso app was launched in the US in 2018 and arrived in Mexico in 2019.
The team is reportedly preparing for a launch in India last year. Lasso is similar to TikTok and allows users to create short videos.
Earlier, the CEO of Facebook told his employees that while Chinese tech companies are working hard, TikTok is “the first consumer Internet product manufactured by one of the Chinese tech giants that is doing quite well worldwide”.
In India, according to the CEO of Facebook, TikTok is now ahead of Instagram in terms of scale.
At Lasso app, users can lip-sync themselves to dance and music, as they already do at TikTok. The app also allows users to record short clips such as Vines. It is available on iOS and Android.
Facebook told The Verge: “Lasso is a modern, stand-alone short-form video app from entertainment to fashion and health, and more. Here, we are excited about the potential, and gather feedback from people and creators.”
You can sign in to Lasso via Instagram or create an account using Facebook. You must authorize the app to allow access to your profile page, photos and videos. Next set up, you are free to scroll through the short videos that autoplay while you pass.
Hashtags are prominently displayed at the bottom, and like other social media platforms, you can also filter content with tags.
So far, you have been able to share Lasso videos as Facebook stories, with features to share them as Instagram stories to come later. You are unable to make your profile private.
Earlier, a report by The Verge showed that Facebook and Zuckerberg plan to compete in countries with Tiktok where it is large, including India and it seems that the time has come for Facebook to enter India. TikTok has crossed 1.5 billion installs, according to a survey from Sensor Tower, and is one of the world’s most popular applications.
The report states that, “Tiktok was the fourth most downloaded non-gaming app in the world last year with 655.8 million unique installs.” The app has been downloaded 614 million times in 2019 alone, which is over 6%. Last year. It is not as TikTok, it is now the third most downloaded non-gaming app of the year.
